While the Metropolitan Golf Club is a gender free club, a ladies section is still in existence to look after the affairs of the female members. A Ladies Committee is elected each year for this purpose and the various Ladies golf days and functions are attended to by the Ladies Committee.
Tuesday afternoons is historically the ladies competition afternoon and league matches against other clubs in the area are also played on these days.
However, modern society requires many women to work and as such they are often unable to participate during the working week. A “Working Ladies Competition” is therefore held one Sunday a month and it is hoped that this becomes a more regular feature at the club.
A Monthly Mixed competition is also arranged once a month and this is open to both members and visitors. The competition is followed by a light supper and prize giving, all of which is inclusive in the green fee paid for the competition.
While the course was closed for 2 and a half years for the building of the Cape Town World Cup Football stadium and the course was being re-constructed, there was a small drop-off in ladies membership but the section is now gaining new members and we would encourage all prospective members to contact the club with regard to membership details.
Should you not be wanting to join, we would still love to have you play at The Met and enjoy the experience as do many others.
